Mel’s Response to the Assault in Palm Springs

I posted a video response to the news clip posted on YouTube of 69-year-old Phyllis Burgess being assaulted by a group of GLBT protesters in Palm Springs.  This is it.  The actual blog is still being uploaded, I’ll post it as soon as I can.

  1. I can believe what I saw in that YouTube video link. Thuggery, hate, Gestapo tactics, and anything but the Democratic Principles this nation was founded on.

I don’t agree with what Phyllis Burgess did or the message she has, but she an a Constitutional right to say what is on her mind. If we can’t respect the civil rights of others then why should anyone respect ours?

  2. Thank you for this video. I am so irritated with the behavior of the gay community. They do not speak for me. I get so angry with what my community is doing I just want to smack’m and tell them to stop the maddness. They have surely set us back in our fight.

You bring up an interesting matter.

Our community does not have elected leaders or any kind of democratic structure. Yet we have people who claim to speak on behalf of our community. We have people who taken action on behalf of our community. These so called lesbian and gay leaders weren’t elected by our community at large. Yet they claim to respresent us. I don’t see how you can claim to represent anyone unless you have consent to do so.
