When Your Favorite Sports Team Sux…..

Those folks who have been here since Steve and I joined up know that I really love foreign affairs.  And any of you who have been reading us since then also know that I consistently chastise everyone for not giving a damn about foreign stuff.  My posts to the effect are basically ignored except for occasional polite comments. But you have to throw me a bone here. This is crazy stuff.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il is a certifiable nut.  If he was captured and brought to trial here in the US, he would be sentenced to life in prison without parole if not death.  But his lawyers might plead the “insanity defense.”  And, by God, I – as a supporter of tough sentencing and capital punishment – would totally agree.  The man is a total whack-job. This sums it up.

North Korea’s football team has been shamed in a six-hour public inquisition and the team’s coach has been accused of “betraying” the reclusive leader’s heir apparent following their failure at the World Cup, according to reports.

The entire squad was forced onto a stage at the People’s Palace of Culture and subjected to criticism from Pak Myong-chol, the sports minister, as 400 government officials, students and journalists watched.

The players were subjected to a “grand debate” on July 2 because they failed in their “ideological struggle” to succeed in South Africa, Radio Free Asia and South Korean media reported

The team’s coach, Kim Jong-hun, was reportedly forced to become a builder and has been expelled from the Workers’ Party of Korea.

The coach was punished for “betraying” Kim Jong-un – one of Supreme Leader Kim Jong-il’s sons and heir apparent…..

However, media in South Korea said the players got off lightly by North Korean standards.

“In the past, North Korean athletes and coaches who performed badly were sent to prison camps,” a South Korean intelligence source told the Chosun Ilbo newspaper.

Incredible.  And these people have nukes.  It’s amazing.  A totally Homer Simpson kinda thing where you smack your own forehead and say “Doh!”  But we keep coddling these imbeciles.  Simply amazing.

  1. Reminds me of soccer players in Iraq being jailed for losing. Then they were beat up.

If there is one thing other countries should learn from the U.S. it is that they can have a better society if they have sports with rules.

The more players the better. Girls and boys.

You play sports and get a high that keeps you from wanting to blow yourself up and get to those 72 virgins that do not exist in the next life.

You get people who are stronger and better disciplined on their own, rather than on the state program that fuels your inner rage from being disciplined and directed totally by others.

Communism and Socialism squashes the very being of each human life under it’s control.

When they do have sports standouts, it is because of the sever abuse that causes them to break down later in life.

It breaks my heart for the children of the world who are denied access to sports, because of the religion or nationalism of their country.

They are denied a chance to feel really alive, whole and strong. Or they are punished for having done that and not transferred that winning feeling onto their government or dictator.

Same with business. They keep people from ever realizing the joy of creating and producing and selling.

    Just break their spirits.

  2. Obama should be telling these dolts to go piss up a rope, but he doesn’t and never will have the balls to stand up to them. I’m sorry, but merely continuing with military drills in the face of nuclear threats from Kim Jong-il isn’t enough.

What they should have done was tell the bastard that if they dare make one more threat, we will give them something to really get pissy about. They never will, though.

  3. I am a big fan of soccer. North Korea did far better than people predicted. Brazil beat them 2-1. But the game was scoreless for the 1st half.

Portugal hammered them 7-0. But the Portugal team could have backed off. The score was run up because goal differential is crucial when there are ties in the standings.

Ivory Coast won their match against North Korea 3-1. That’s not a bad loss. In that were a NFL football game then 3-1 equals 21-7.

Before this tournament started, the conventional wisdom was all three teams would tear North Korea to shreds and they tried. But, that did not happen.

The North Korean team did their nation right. They were not expected to advance to the knockout round. They were picked to finish last in their group and did. Sadly they were drawn into a group with three powerhouse teams. They were in the so called Group of Death becuase one good team (Ivory Coast) did not advance. The other groups in the tournament were more evenly balanced.

  4. “What they should have done was tell the bastard that if they dare make one more threat, we will give them something to really get pissy about. They never will, though.”

It’s the nukes that are the problem.

Eventually one of his son’s will take over. His son’s were educated in Europe. Perhaps one of his son’s will have a more moderate approach towards the west. It is beneficial to be that way.
