Happy Hanukkah!

Shalom! In solidarity with my friends in Israel and all of my Jewish friends stateside, I’d like to share the three traditional Hanukkah blessings recited on the first night, during the lighting of the first candle on the Menorah.

Barukh atah Adonai, Eloheinu, melekh ha’olam
Asher kidishanu b’mitz’votav v’tzivanu
L’had’lik neir shel Chanukah. (Amein)
Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe
Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us
to light the lights of Hanukkah (Amen)

Barukh atah Adonai, Eloheinu, melekh ha’olam
she’asah nisim la’avoteinu bayamim haheim baziman hazeh. (Amein)
Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe
Who performed miracles for our ancestors in those days at this time

Barukh atah Adonai, Eloheinu, melekh ha’olam
shehecheyanu v’kiyimanu v’higi’anu laz’man hazeh. (Amein)
Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe
who has kept us alive, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this season (Amen)

L’Chaim!

  1. May this Christian extend my respect and deerest feelings for all who are celebrating this season.
For all I find myself blessed with, I find it means even more when I thrill in the traditions.
Many of us go through sieges of one kind or another. It’s good to have faith that enough oil will be provided while we endure.

    Shalom

  2. My parents and I attend a Messianic church. Our pastor talked about the history of Hannukah. Embracing Israel and Judiasm is embracing the history and heritage of Christianity.
